Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

How long is the CNA Training Program?

  • 22 Days of instruction
  • Weekday CNA: Monday through Friday, 7 am – 3:30 pm
  • Weekend CNA: Saturday and Sunday, 7 am – 3:30 pm

Do I have to have a High School Diploma or GED?

No, however, there are assessment exam requirements through Wonderlic

Do I have to be COVID-19 Vaccinated?

Nursing homes require COVID-19 vaccinations for Clinical Training. However, they might accept medical/religious exemptions.

Do I have to have a background check to attend the program? If I have any prior convictions other than a minor traffic violation, can I still take CNA training?

You can take the CNA training, but your live scan has to be cleared by the DOJ to get a license through CDPH.  We recommend you do the live scan first before taking the class.  Any further questions, pls email CDPH with your inquiry.

Is there an exam at the end of the course?

We have quizzes and a final exam during Theory days.

How many questions are in the CNA state exam?

70 written questions and 5 competency skills exam

Where can I work as a CNA?

You can work at nursing homes or at an agency with one-on-one clients.  Also, hospitals.

 

Can I work outside of California?

You will need to transfer your CNA license to that particular state.

 

Requirements to take a CNA class:

US government-issued photo ID, social security card, physical exam, TB (or Xray) clearance, and Covis-19 vaccination record (or religious exemption upon nursing homes)

 

Home Health Aid (HHA)

How long is the HHA program?

  • 40 hours including clinical training
  • Weekend: 7 am to 3:30 pm (3 Saturdays and 2 Sundays)
  •  Evening: 4 pm to 8 pm (2 weeks/ Monday-Friday)

 

What are the requirements?

Hold an active CNA license, Physical exam, TB(Or X-ray) clearance, COVID-19 vaccination (or religious exemption for clinical training at the nursing home), Maintain a criminal record clearance, and be at least 16 years old.

Where can I work as an HHA?

You can work at licensed home agencies to provide basic nursing care in private homes or hospice programs.

Is there an exam at the end?

Quizzes and a final exam during Theory sessions.

HHA CEU renewal information:

Must obtain 24 hours of In-Service training/CEUs within the certification period. 12 of the 24 hours are required in each year of the two-year certification period. HHAs may not use online CEUs to meet the renewal requirement.

Medical Assistant (MA)

How long is the Medical Assistant Program?

  • 10-week theory and lab (160 hrs) plus 160 hours of Externship.
  • Total of 320 hours

 

 

Is the Medical Assistant program hybrid learning?

Yes, the Medical Assistant Program offers in-person and virtual learning.

Medical Assistant Program Schedule

    1. Weekday Schedule:
      • Tuesday/Wednesday (In Person): 9 am to 3:30 pm
      • Thursday (Virtual): 9 am to 2:30 pm
    2. Evening/Saturday schedule:
      • Tuesday/Thursday (virtual): 6 pm to 9 pm
      • Saturday (in person): 9 am to 5:30 pm

Is a Medical Assistant Certification needed in California?

According to the Medical Board of California: Medical assistants are not required to be licensed or certified by the State of California.

Where can I take my certification test?

After completing the 10-week program and 160-hour externship, MA students can apply for the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) MA certification. Please visit: https://www.ncctinc.com/certifications/medical-assistant

What is the age requirement for the MA program?

The minimum age requirement is 18 years old

What medical clearance do I need to attend the program?

Physical, PPD (TB) test, COVID-19, Hepatitis B, Flu (October – March), BLS Provider
