As a Medical Assistant, you are the liaison between medical professionals, doctors, pharmacists, insurance companies, and patients. This comprehensive 160-hour program prepares students to perform clinical tasks and functions to keep healthcare facilities running smoothly.
Through classroom lectures and hands-on labs, this program prepares students to assist physicians with administrative and clinical responsibilities in a medical office. Administrative duties may include answering telephones, greeting patients, calling in prescriptions to a pharmacy, and scheduling appointments.
Clinical duties may include taking medical histories, recording vital signs, preparing patients, assisting the physician during examinations, collecting and preparing laboratory specimens, performing basic laboratory tests, and sterilizing medical instruments.
Other duties may include instructing patients in regards to procedures, special diets, preparing and administering medications as directed by the physician, preparing patients for x-rays and exams, electrocardiograms, removing sutures, and changing dressings.
